Do your DVDs come with public performance rights?

Purchase of our DVDs includes educational Public Performance Rights. Educational public performance rights means any noncommercial exhibition of the physical DVD to a group for educational purposes. The term of the public performance license is for the life of the DVD. Purchase of DVDs does not include the right to charge admission for the viewing of the films. Film may not be duplicated, digitized or transmitted electronically in any form without a Digital Site License or specific permission from the copyright owner.

We want to use the films under the Section 101(1) face-to-face teaching exception only, and we do not need PPR.

We offer only one institutional price which includes both face to face teaching and PPR.

Are digital streaming rights available for the documentaries distributed through Dark Hollow Films?

Many of our films are available with Digital Site Licenses. You may select the license using the drop down menu on the film’s page.

How would my institution benefit by a Digital Site License?

Digital Site Licenses allow higher education institutions to encode, locally host, and stream the licensed films, making them accessible to a greater number of students.

Why do your films cost so much?

Dark Hollow Films is primarily a non-theatrical distributor, which is different from a home video distributor in that purchases of our films come with public performance rights. This means that your organization has the right to show the film in public provided that no admission fee is charged. The projector and audience must be in the same room, and showing the film online or on television is not allowed without the purchase of a digital site license.

Please keep in mind that when you buy our films a large portion of the price is paid back to the filmmakers in royalties, which helps them to continue to produce films. Reduced rates are available to nonprofit groups.

How do I submit my film for distribution consideration?

Please send a description of your film via email to tony@darkhollowfilms.com. Include links to your film’s website and online trailer, if possible. If your film seems to be a good fit for our collection we will request that you send us a screener or a link to your film.
